Getting A Student Driver's Permit In The Philippines 2020

Disclaimer: This information is valid until the end of March 2020 only because (next month) in April 2020 there will be new requirements in getting Student Driver's Permit. You can also refer to this site for more information: https://www.lto.gov.ph/license-permit-issuance.html

Before the year 2019 ends, I wrote my 2020 goals on my planner and one of that is to get Driver's License on this year 2020. However, part of getting the Driver's License is to first get a student driver's permit.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

  • 1 original copy of NSO Birth  Certificate or PSA Birth Certificate
  • 1 Government Issued ID - original and photocopy
  • Medical Certificate from the approved clinics of LTO (land transportation office)

WHERE DID I GET IT?

At SM Seaside City Cebu. For outside Cebu you can check the LTO offices within reach in your area.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS?

Actually, the process is quite faster than I expected. My friend and I went there Friday (02/28/2020) after work around half-past four (4) pm.

1. We went to the reception area to get a document and fill-out some information. (Prior to this I already know the process because I already came here a week before and asked in advance. Being informative is the key. Haha)

while filling-out some necessary information . . .

2. We went to the nearby clinic approved by LTO for medical. (actually, there are a lot, you can just choose any)

Next . . .

3. We went back to the LTO office and gave the requirements to the reception area. Afterward, she advised us to submit the requirements to the specific window area catering for Student Driver's Permits. Then, we waited for our name to be called for payment. Next, after payment, they printed our permits and we waited for our name to be called again for the issuance . . . after few minutes viola! we already got our Student Driver's Permits.

My Student Permit. Yey! 1 step down to Professional License.

In addition, you can convert your Student Permit to Non-professional Driver's License after 1 month and 1 day upon the issuance date. After 3 months for Professional Driver's License.

WHEN IS THE EXPIRY DATE OF THE STUDENT DRIVER'S PERMIT?

1 year. It is valid for 1 year after the issued date.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
  • For Student Permit - Php. 317.63
  • For Medical Certificate - Php. 300

I hope you find it helpful, guys.
